Kistefos museum in Jevnaker

One of our summer vacation day trips this year was a visit to the Kistefos museum in Jevnaker, about an hour's drive north and slightly west from Oslo. The drive itself takes you through some beautiful farmland, and on the day we made the trip, the weather was lovely. There is something about the combination of a blue sky, warm sun, and farmland that puts me in a good mood. I am reminded of when I lived in southern New Jersey in the mid-1980s; there was a lot of farmland all around the apartment complex where I lived, and during the summers, it was so relaxing to live there and to walk to the nearby farmer's market. But I'll save those memories for another post.

Kistefos museum 'offers world-class architecture, industrial history, art exhibitions and an impressive sculpture park in scenic surroundings', as they state on their website: https://www.kistefosmuseum.com/ . It is well-worth visiting, and I plan on doing so again in the coming years. The Twist Gallery alone is worth the price of admission. After we spent the afternoon there, we drove further on to Oldemors Karjol, a very good restaurant for Norwegian food (https://hadelandcatering.no/meny-oldemors-karjol-2/).

Here are some photos of Kistefos museum, the Twist Gallery, the outdoor sculptures, and the surrounding landscape:

Our annual autumn drive

We took our annual autumn drive today, a beautiful sunny day, perfect for the occasion. We drove through Jevnaker and Hønefoss, and stopped at a farm in the Hønefoss area where you could pick your own corn. So we stopped and bought some corn, drank some coffee, and went to say hello to one of the sweet horses that was in one of the pens near the corn stands. On the way home we drove along Tyrifjorden, which I think is one of the loveliest in Norway. I took some photos of our afternoon trip that I wanted to share in this post.

Autumn visit to Jevnaker

This past Sunday, my husband and I drove about forty-five miles north of Oslo to the village of Jevnaker, which is located in Oppland county in the Jevnaker municipality. We've been to Jevnaker several times before, often during the autumn, to see the foliage and to eat dinner (very good traditional Norwegian food) at a restaurant called Oldemors Karjol: http://www.oldemors-karjol.no/  and http://tinyurl.com/lbuk7yx. If you're in the area, stop in at this restaurant; the homemade meat cakes are highly-recommended.

We stopped at the Jevnaker church, high on a hill with lovely views out over farmland and over Randsfjorden. The Jevnaker region is truly a pastoral setting, lovely at this time of year, with farmhouses, sheep and cattle dotting the landscape here and there. The leaves on the trees had changed color--mostly yellow and rust color this year, not much red, at least not yet. We drove on further to the Hadeland Glass Works, which is also a very pleasant place to visit; you may even find some special Christmas presents. You can read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadeland_Glassverk

I'm including the route we took, which is quite scenic in and of itself: we drove east and then north of Oslo, via Harestua and Roa, to Jevnaker, and then back to Oslo via Klekken and Sollihøgda. The return trip took us past Tyrifjorden, which is a beautiful fjord. I'm also including some photos that I took in Jevnaker on a beautiful autumn day. Enjoy!
