More plays of light and reflections

Inspired by my previous post, and acknowledging that we are now in the season of light, I looked back over some of the photos I have taken during the past few years, where the plays of light caught my photographer's eye. I love looking at the different patterns created by sunlight reflecting off different objects, or created with other sources of light.

A play of light

I took this photo this morning. Sunlight was streaming through our living room window and was caught by the candle holder on the coffee table. I love the play of light, the pattern......

The colors of autumn sunrises

I took some sunrise photos during this past week, and here are the results--a truly spectacular blending of light and colors. There is nothing quite like an autumn sunrise to inspire the soul.

Summer's light

I love the summer's light--the way the sun shines into our apartment during mid-afternoon. Peaceful. There is a haziness to the colors of the tree and building outside--the sun is strong. There is so much light around; everything indoors and out is bathed in light. This is just one of the things I love about summer--the light that goes on and on. It can be light here in Oslo until well after midnight, not as strong as at midday, of course. As we move toward summer solstice, it will continue to get even lighter, at which point we will have the longest (and brightest) day of the year, and then the days will (very) gradually start to get shorter.

Good morning from sunny Oslo

I'm posting this photo today because the weather forecast for the week ahead is the opposite of what you see in the photo. Rain is predicted for nearly every day this coming week, along with colder temperatures. In other words, this coming week is the spring weather we should have had in late March. However, in late March and most of April, it was almost as though early summer had arrived, with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. I hope this chilly and rainy spell doesn't last long. But at least I'll have this photo to remind me of the way it was.......

A summer moment

From the future I remember
Days in my past, etched in memory
Close my eyes halfway, I can see the sunlight
Glittering through the tree’s green leaves
Magician’s haze
In the heat of summer, feeling the warm sun
On my bare arms, loving that feeling.
Wondering if heaven had descended
Sitting there next to you on the bench
You reading your magazine
T-shirt slung over your shoulder
Me watching you and the life around us
No particular cares
Us watching the new magpie parents strut about
Three little ones to care for, wondering if they could fly
In case a cat came slinking by.

I can see the future in the present moment
Remembering this day this exact moment in time
And the past from the present
When I remember back to what I thought life would be
When I was younger
It starts with happiness, that warm melting feeling
When boundaries dissolve
Feeling gratitude, because it could all die away or change
And I am grateful that it hasn’t.
Watching the new generation take the place of the old
Spectator in my life, watching others, watching myself
Everyone gets older
Wondering if you have the same thoughts
But I cannot articulate them to you
You would think that I was feeling melancholy
When the opposite was true.

Sunrise, sunset and oh, the moon too

All in one day---today's sunrise, sunset and a moonlit night. The sunrises and sunsets recently have been gorgeous--such vivid colors. I've got to work on getting better night shots; this was the only moon picture I managed to get that was sort of decent. But I'm working on it. I'm loving my camera--a Canon EOS 500D. But I'm still using my Fuji FinePix at times--got some nice photos with that camera too. I wish I could say that I understood everything there was to understand about digital cameras these days, but I don't. I usually just point and shoot in auto mode. But eventually I'll get around to a deeper immersion into the world of digital photography, maybe even take a course or two. Right now, I'm just having fun.

Sunrise

Sunrise a little later

Still sunrise

Moving towards sunset

Moving towards sunset

The sunset reflected in the windows of this apartment building makes it look like it's on fire from inside.

What a sky!

Oslo fjord photos

This past Saturday, the weather was beautiful--warm and sunny, and we were out on our boat. I had my camera with me as always, and took some shots of our surroundings. I'm hoping for more days like this one. Since last Saturday, all it's done is rain and I am ready for more sun-filled days.......Enjoy the views!

Trying to understand the mystery of life

Apropos my last post, where I talked about accepting some things in this life (like my faith) that I know I will never understand on this ea...
